Background The EPIC Board of Management has recently developed a set of strategic directions, including a strong focus on the conduct of research that will be of program, empirical, and theoretical importance to the field of early childhood intervention.
EPIC’s research agenda will involve the implementation of a research plan to develop and conduct a series of studies that generate knowledge and information relevant to children with developmental delays/disabilities, their families, and the early childhood intervention programs that support them.
Specifically, EPIC’s research agenda focuses on questions that:
address the effectiveness of EPIC programs in achieving its outcomes for children and families;
generate knowledge about the implementation of specific EPIC program areas;
promote and evaluate the development of supports for EPIC families;
address general (theoretical) questions in early childhood intervention;
evaluate coordination efforts between EPIC and the overall early childhood sector with the view of promoting the successful inclusion of young children with developmental delays/disabilities in their communities.
Potential Research Areas It is anticipated that a series of projects will occur concurrently. Research project decisions, however, will be made in terms of the availability of resources, infrastructure, and logistical arrangements between EPIC and its research partners.
The following list breakdown of projects represents an initial appraisal to possible project areas; but it is not at all exclusive of other research topics.
